Rain barrels purchased now will be available for pickup on May 23 between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the Public Works Department Wastewater Plant at 15500 Sun Light Near Way #B.     The last day for purchase is Friday, May 9 - 12:00 p.m.

Pickup is held in conjunction with the Public Works Department annual open house. Guests are encouraged to tour the wastewater plant when picking up their rain barrel on Friday, May 23. The Public Works Department will be open until 7 p.m. to allow for pickup and to accommodate open house guests. Receipts must be presented when barrels are picked up. The discounted rain barrels are for sale to anyone wishing to purchase a rain barrel.

The rain barrels normally cost approximately $150 retail, but are available for a limited time thanks to a partnership between the city and Ivy rain barrels.  With barrels holding up to 50 gallons, customers can collect rain water for lawn and gardening purposes.

“In conjunction with the city’s water conservation initiatives, the barrels provide an environmental collection of water for residents,” water conservation manager Darrell Winslett said. “The barrels are cost-effective as they provide an opportunity to reuse rainwater for lawns and gardens instead of pulling the water from the city’s water supply. Depending on the amount of rain we receive, customers may even see a difference in their water bills.”

The Ivy barrels offer these environmentally friendly features:
  • made of 50% recycled plastic
  • bug-proof screen to keep out mosquitoes and other pests
  • 3/4” valve to conveniently connect to a standard garden hose
  • child-proof locking lid
  • a gravity-fed feature - no pumps required

The barrels can stack within each other for easy storage and transportation, and at a size of approximately 43 inches high and 23 inches wide, the barrels fit into the back seat of a standard 4-door sedan.
